A major scaffolding collapse at 500 Crawford in downtown Houston just after 11 a.m. this morning has resulted in injury to at least six construction workers. The accident occurred just outside of a luxury apartment building under construction near Minute Maid Park.
The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene within minutes of the initial report. They are currently working with the construction company to determine how many employees may have been on site at the time of the accident.
According to Houston Fire Department, Captain Ruy Lozano, six workers have so far been removed from the wreckage and transported to local hospitals. Injuries have been described as significant, but not life-threatening. A team of more than 30 firefighters, as well as several heavy rescue units, are still searching through the piles of twisted metal for any more possible victims.
Further updates will be provided by local news outlets as more details on this story unfold.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this accident and pray for a swift recovery for those who have been injured.
Construction accidents are far too common and result in a number of entirely preventable injuries and deaths. Accident victims and families should not have to take on the financial burden of accidents like these, especially when it comes to expensive medical bills and wages lost during recovery time.
